Webinar Description:

The psychological assessment of applicants to the seminary is a specialty clinical practice. Thus, on-going training is needed to exhibit the needed competencies to be a psychological expert in assessment for the Catholic Church. This webinar is intended to provide foundational knowledge of important church documents and language relevant to the assessment process. The webinar will review the common report structures, psychological tests, and interview questions used in seminarian assessments.  Instruction on how to translate gathered test data into relevant, meaningful recommendations for various audiences (Church representative, formation faculty, applicant, another mental health professional) will be provided. Finally, a primary goal of the webinar is to advance the professional knowledge from common to best practices.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Applying guidelines from the professional psychological literature and relevant church documents to properly construct a culturally-competent psychological assessment for application top the catholic seminary
  2. Identify variations in psychological reports that hinder an effective communication of results and recommendations.
  3. Adapt best practices in test selection, report structure, and recommendations of seminary assessments that are congruent with the stated goals and audiences.
